‘3646’ @ Phoenix

A house and yard plan showing existing structures, green lawns, pathways, trees, and surrounding streets.

This classic red brick home, built in the 1960s in Phoenix, inspired an approach focused on honoring the existing character while incorporating raw materials like steel and stone.

The project is broad in scope and divided into phases: Phase 1, the front landscaping, is complete; Phase 2 will address fencing and other exterior elements. The goal is to preserve the home’s spirit while introducing thoughtful additions/updates.

HISTORIC PHX HOME

A proposal for the transformation of an existing water tower into a two-level studio space, alongside a reimagining of the surrounding pool area. The process prioritizes light intervention, spatial circulation, and material continuity as core drivers of the design. While the main concept of extending the circular structure upward remains, the initial idea of a second-floor buildout has evolved into a circular balustrade that will eventually be covered with vines.

A white brick house with a curved, modern glass staircase leading to the entrance. There's a small garden with bushes and a brick sidewalk in front.
Diagram of architectural plans and interior design features for a small living space, including roof plan, spiral staircase in corten steel, built-in bed with storage, and floor plans for various levels.

VISUALIZATION

A two-story house with white brick walls and a small extension with siding. The house has a pitched roof and several windows, with a staircase leading up to a door on the raised extension. There are bushes and a sidewalk in the front yard, with a partly cloudy sky above.

‘La Chapelle’ @ l’ A.L.B.A

Prompt: Design a mountain chapel, drawing inspiration from a selected architect. (2012-2023)

I chose Aldo Rossi, known for his typological clarity and structures that evoke memory and communal identity. I keep returning to this project, whether by re-visiting it or adding more details.

The chapel is a sphere held in place by a field of pillars, shaped as its negative. You walk between them before entering, creating moments to reflect.
Without the pillars, the sphere would roll down the mountain.

“In order to be significant, architecture must be forgotten, or must present only an image for reverence which subsequently becomes confounded with memories.” ALDO ROSSI
